RCMP Strategic Planning 2011/2012
| News |
The purpose of this report is to alert the City of Quesnel on the progress of policing initiatives to date. The reporting was an agreed-to portion of the Detachment Annual Performance Plan.
The Crime Reductions Strategies of the Prolific Offender Program and the Targeted Patrol (foot patrols) remain the primary features of this year's strategic plan. The Prolific Offender Program is a long term, ongoing program. The Targeted Foot/Bike Patrol program had been completed for this year. There are some further improvement in crime numbers this year, although not as significant as last year.
Key features are a 29% decrease in Mischief offenses, a 10% decrease in Theft under $5000, a 61% decrease in theft over $5000, a 28% decrease in Motor Vehicle collisions, a 2% decrease in calls for service, a 5% decrease in reported crimes against persons and a 33% decrease in reported property crime.
The clearance/solve rate for persons related offenses remains approximately 70%, and for property related offenses, approximately 33%. The ratio of files for the detachment overall remains close to 70% in the city and 30% in rural areas.
The numbers are significant when compared to prior years. What is significant is that the changes have been improvements, although not as significant as from 2009 to 2010. This does appear to support that the Crime Reduction Strategies are working and we are holding the new line.
