The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of the snowmobile operator who died in an avalanche northeast of Prince George on November 13, 2011.

The deceased is Dallas Shane Mayert, aged 40, of Prince George.

Mr. Mayert and a friend were snowmobiling in the MacGregor/ Torpy Recreation Area northeast of Prince George on the afternoon of November 13 when Mr. Mayert was struck by a slab avalanche. His friend managed to make it out of the area uninjured.

Mr. Mayert’s body was recovered on the afternoon of November 14 after the area had been made safe for ground crews to enter through the use of explosives.

Investigation into the case continues.

The Coroners Service expresses our sympathy to the family and friends of Mr. Mayert, and also our appreciation to the avalanche technicians, search-and-rescue teams and volunteers who worked so diligently on the rescue and recovery efforts.
